How to repair split wood door

In some instances, the processes involved in finishing the door might crack it. Further, with time, wooden doors are likely to crack due to expansion and contraction caused by fluctuating humidity and air changes. You most definitely want to restore the beauty of your home. This is only possible if when there is a clear guideline on what you should do.

So what do you do?

In most instances, homeowners fill the cracks using wood filler. However, this is never a lasting solution to door cracks. This will not prevent your wooden door from expanding and contracting. At this point, you should glue the cracked pieces back together.

In some instances, door panels can fit into the recess. This enables them to have molding covering either side. You should scrap the entire gunk in the recess during this period. Do this clean up using mineral spirits and superfine steel wool. Since your doors have a clear finish, you can use a razor blade to attain the finish. This will be where the cracked panels will fit into the frame. Immediately the broken panel slides proceed to use a hot-glue gun in attaching wooden blocks to either side of the panel. If the crack has got gunk in it, you should clean it out. This can be effectively done using a strip of sandpaper. You can then squeeze wood glue into the crack. You should then set a clamp against these blocks to pull the crack closed.

You must clean up any wood glue that will be in excess. This should be done before the glue dries up. However, you should leave the clamp intact for a period of twenty-four hours. You can then remove the blocks using a chisel. Since you used hot glue, it will be easy to clean up. Got glue is usually brittle. You can now give the door the final touch. Make sure that there is no finish pool along the edges of the panel. You are aware of the harm such can do.
